What problems and sources will you be pursuing for this project?
Let me just say, reading these chapters got me SUPER PUMPED about visiting a library! I would go this weekend if I didn't have a competition out of town.
After analyzing my problem, I think my topic would be more of a conceptual problem, because I would be helping people understand how children develop and how these toys impact that growth. At this point, however, I really feel like my research could go either way with pure or applied. It depends on the research I find. It could go towards pure, because I would be helping people understand which toys are the most beneficial, but it could also be applied if I suggest certain play routines or activities.
Sources:
I could use primary sources if I go and observe children playing or use toys as references. Other than that I will probably be using more of secondary sources. Tertiary sources were new to me, but I'm sure I will be using quite a bit of those as well. I plan on interviewing many different people. I want to talk to Benjamin's mom possibly (that was the "advice/help" he gave me) along with other child psychologists and developmental therapists. I think it'd be interesting to go in and observe certain daycares and see how those children are interacting. Maybe it's better for children to play at home than in a daycare or vice versa. OH MAN! That could be another thesis topic!
