2/6/12

Today didn't feel nearly as productive. I decided to start looking for scholarly sources for the other side of my debate: educational learning in daycare is best. I didn't have much luck (at least in JSTOR) so I started searching for developmental milestones, and I came up with a good idea for my curriculum. Most people know this and I have support to back it up, but children develop at different rates. There is a general timeline that says toddlers should be walking at a good pace by age 2 and talking by age 3. This isn't always realistic though, especially with the early developments such as sitting up or crawling. Well due to these circumstances, my curriculum would include an assessment for each child's individual skills. I've read about an emergent daycare type program where the children choose what to learn/play with/focus on. This idea is similar, but it focuses specifically on developmental skills. That way, if a child is working on crawling they can have some dedicated "tummy time." Since I still need to be focusing on toys, I could incorporate toys that address these motor skills, like the walker/bouncers etc.

Hopefully I can read a bit more out of my book tonight. I think I'm going to start focusing on specific chapters. It's just hard, because I feel like it is all so good! That's another problem I've been encountering. I keep finding so much good information and things that are interesting, but I have to remind myself of my topic sentence and constraints such as time and probability.
