I'm glad that when Abby and Brad were talking they also mentioned the negatives. It would be unrealistic for them to say that everything goes smoothly and you know right away what you want to do, so I appreciated their honesty.
They continually reinforced to choose something you are passionate about and wouldn't mind spending a year researching/talking about. Well I don't think it would be a surprise to any of you that I want to do something with babies if that is at all possible. However, I am OPTIMISTIC and know I will find something, because it's such a broad topic. I could focus on prenatal when the baby is in the womb (and before) or neonatal when the baby is just born. I could focus on infant development or I could focus more specifically on what I'd like to major in, neonatology. For those of you who don't what that is, it's the babies in the NICU receiving special care, because they are premature or suffer from other potentially life threatening conditions... POOR THINGS RIGHT?! :(
Anyway, that's where I am right now. BABIES! Just not sure which of the many things to focus on yet...
Haha! Emily, I think you would definitely never get bored of researching baby stuff! You could take surveys like of different pregnant women and their symptoms? I wonder if you could somehow connect it to our culture? I don't know what I am thinking but I like your starting ideas!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to comment on this forever! So now I can finally say this.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of babies for two reasons: you are suppppppeeeeeer interesting in them and it is broad enough to where you could go in many different directions! My one suggestion would be to stay away from abortion. Because it is such a popular subject of discussion, it might get really tiring as research goes on. It would also be difficult to make a new claim about it. I might also try to think of an idea or two outside of the babyu realm.
Haha thanks Caroline. Oh yeah I had no intentions of going near abortion, because I don't think that has anything really for me to research and like you said make a claim from because it's so controversial.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah I've had a few ideas moving away from babies (my latest blog was about the public school system), so I'm definitely open to other things. But thanks for your comments! :)
This is a great idea for you. It will allow you to channel you "baby energy" somewhere!
ReplyDeleteYou and your babies! I know that if you did a thesis that involved babies you would have so much fun with it and you wouldn't get bored! However, the topic of babies is very broad and I like the idea of child development. That is still broad within itself. Try and think of more specific topics underneath the broad one of babies. Think about your interests and try and connect them with babies!
